Just favorited “We Got Latin Soul” by Reverend Lovejoy on Mixcloud.com
The referee whistles! Kicking off, the venezuelan Simón Díaz; passes to Gil Scott-Heron, who flies past everyone and shoots the ball straight to the goal!, But there was the soul-funk genious goalkeeping skills of Curtis Mayfield. He passes on to danish easy-listening Axel Boys Quartet. Some fancy footwork and then a pass to Julian Lynch, who always knows what to do with the ball in midfield. Right before the and of the first half a taste of “the beautiful game” by brazilian Os Cariocas to fire up the game.
Second half and the ball is being passed around by sebian Suba in true brazilian style. PJ Harvey lets england shake as she dribbles past the atlantic to get the ball to the feet of our striker Jorge Ben. He shoots but hits the post! The crowd sings “Errare humanum est”. Oxfordian quintet Radiohead take the game deep into the opponents area and its a goal!! Referee says no! Its disallowed! James Blake is giving the ref a rap known as the “Wilhelms scream”. The fans are out on the streets now “Burnin’ and Lootin’”. We really gotta go now before things turn nasty. Hope you enjoyed the game. Transmission is over.
Tonight we fade in with a tune by street viking musician Moondog, written in memory of Charlie Parker; up next is a 50s South Africa township tune with Nancy Jacobs and Her Sisters; urban greek singer Dionysis Savvopoulos; and for the three last tracks of the first half, we got three gorgeous female singers: the Finland-based soul singer Nicole Willis; brazilian Tulipa Ruiz; and mexican Carla Morrison.
Keeping the rhythm alive, we start the second half with lovely Xanadu’s disco rap; then go down to southern hemisphere with Nereu São José’s slacker samba; then, directly to France, with the lovely Notre Dame; back to Brazil with Wanda Sá’s version of a Carlos Lyra hit; then we dive into a proto-mashup between brazilian Clementina de Jesus and icelandic Múm; and fade out with an optimistic Mercury Rev tune.
our very first mixtape on mixcloud! heating up the engines, we kick off the first half with brazilian 50s samba singer, Agostinho dos Santos; then we go directly to 21st century japan, with the hawaiian music singers Sweet Hollywaiians; 60s rocksteady jamaican vocal group The Gaylads; NY experimental rock band Elephant’s Memory, known for backing John & Yoko in the 70s; Bon Iver’s drummer Sean Carey; and ending the first part, there’s a breathtaking track by norwegian band Jaga Jazzist.
The second half starts with 25 year old portuguese singer B Fachada; then we go straight to a jamaican flavoured track from The Bees’ first album; the greek bizarre man called Larry Gus; the canadian PhD Caribou; Mos Def’s reggae mashup known as Mos Dub; and, closing the mixtape, we got a rendition of a brazilian tune from the 20s, sung by Martinho da Vila.
